Originally a sports sandal, Teva, was born out of necessity to prevent sandals from floating downstream. In 1984, a resourceful river guide strapped two Velcro watch bands to a pair of old flip-flops, and just like that, the first Teva sandal was created. The timeless sandals are known for their signature straps which are continuously being re-imagined with new patterns and as of 2020 are now made from 100% recycled plastic using REPREVE® yarn.
From their humble beginnings on the banks of the Grand Canyon, Teva sandals have come a long way—yet their spirit of freedom and adventure remains unchanged. Originally created in 1984 by a river guide in Arizona, Teva’s mission was simple: to design a sandal that stays secure during outdoor pursuits. That innovative solution—a pair of Velcro watch straps attached to flip-flops—sparked the birth of a global footwear icon.
What sets Teva sandals apart is their perfect balance of comfort, functionality and sustainability. With their iconic strap system and supportive soles, they’re built to handle everything from rugged trails to everyday city wear. Many designs feature quick-dry webbing, adjustable straps for a custom fit, and durable rubber outsoles for traction across different terrains. As of 2020, all Teva straps are now made from 100% recycled plastic using REPREVE® yarn—diverting millions of plastic bottles from landfills.
Whether you’re heading off-grid or just heading out, Tevas are the ultimate go-to for versatile summer footwear.
